Ice fishing rods are much shorter than regular fishing rod as it makes fishing through a small hole more convenient. They are usually made of graphite, fiberglass and composite blend. Graphite is more expensive than fiberglass but it is also lighter and more sensitive. Handles of rod are made up of foam and plastic and is least sensitive. Some companies also preferred high-tech graphite handles for ultimate sensitivity. You can buy an ice fishing rod if you want but it is little expensive. You can also make your own ice fishing rod using wood that you will get it very easily. Ice Fishing rods are classified in four categories ultra light, light, medium and heavy. Ultra light rod is used for fishing pinfish. Light rods are good for perch and light to medium rods are good for walleye, whitefish, and most trout. Heavy rods are best for pike or lake trout.

Rod length:
Rod length depends on the fishing condition. Longer rods tend to be more forgiving. They absorb headshakes, hard hooks sets, and give anglers leverage when fighting fish. Short rods provide less shock absorption however shorter rods are easier to use in cramped quarters.

Choosing the reel
(A device used for retrieving a fishing line using a spool) While choosing the rod make sure you choose the right size reel to properly balance the combo. If you want to fish lake trout (a species of freshwater fish) and pike use larger reels as these fish runs a lot.
